by Helen Mendel, CMD, CEO of PBWC
What a journey! My first year as CEO of the
Professional BusinessWomen of California has
been invigorating. Every day, I meet with PBWC
members, sponsors and Board members who are carrying
on the dream sparked nearly two decades ago when PBWC
Founder and former California State Senator Jackie Speier
created PBWC.
Jackie pioneered a gathering where women from diverse careers, ethnicities and
backgrounds would share a day of learning and inspiration. What began in 1988
as the first-ever Women’s Day for San Mateo County evolved into PBWC’s thriving
annual conferences in San Francisco and Sacramento. PBWC has reached nearly
100,000 women — a legacy I’m proud to be a part of.
Today, California’s women are making history — in business, government and
academics. PBWC is committed to leading the way, offering resources and events to
learn and share our wisdom with future generations.
PBWC is grateful to the many sponsors and community partners who make these
efforts possible. As we forge plans for exciting new initiatives in 2008, we ask our
corporate sponsors and members to get involved in charting our course and lending
financial support. With your help, we can continue building upon Jackie’s Speier’s
initial dream.
I look forward to hearing your ideas and celebrating the “Synergy of Success”
with all of you!
